Partner Content | Best NBA prop picks January 15: Fade Jokic in blowout spot

The NBA features an eight-game slate on Sunday, providing plenty of appealing prop betting opportunities.

The pregame narrative: Nikola Jokic is unlikely to have a monster scoring performance in a game where he won’t be needed to fill the bucket. Domantas Sabonis has literally the perfect matchup and Jalen Williams is coming on strong lately.

NBA prop picks

Best Bet : Jokic under 25.5 points (-104)

There’s no doubt that Jokic is capable of putting up 26 or more points against the bottom-feeding Orlando Magic.

Whether he will is another story.

The Denver Nuggets seem likely to cruise to a win on Sunday as they are 10.5-point favourites, which makes them unlikely to lean on Jokic’s scoring.

In the 16 double-digit Nuggets wins Jokic has played in this season, he’s averaged 22.8 points per game and hit this under 10 times.

When games get out of hand, Denver tends to lessen its superstar’s workload. Seven of his 10 games with under 30 minutes on the court this season have come in these big wins.

To be fair, a Nuggets rout — however likely — isn’t a foregone conclusion on Monday. But there’s another important reason to doubt Jokic will fill the bucket.

The big man missed Denver’s last game with a minor wrist injury, which should make the team disinclined to push him on Sunday. There’s also a possibility that it bothers him on the court and hampers his shooting.

Even if Jokic is feeling fine, and the Magic give the Nuggets a game, this line has been a bit high for the star lately as the under has hit in four of his last seven games.

Key stat: Jokic is averaging 21.1 points in his last seven starts.

Quick picks

Sabonis over 21.5 points (-113): Although Sabonis is averaging 18.9 points per game on the season, we’re willing to bet he has a far better game than usual on Sunday.

The big man has been a more prolific scorer lately, averaging 21.7 points per game in his last 13 outings — and he has the most promising matchup the NBA has to offer.

The San Antonio Spurs allow the most points per game in the league (121.5) and are terrible against centres like Sabonis. San Antonio allows the most points in the paint of any NBA team (55.4/game), allowing centres to pour in 24.2 points a night per FantasyPros — the fifth-highest total in the league.

Williams over 12.5 points (-118): This line asks Williams to exceed his season-long scoring average (11.9 points/game), but it’s a modest ask considering his recent production.

Since joining the Oklahoma City Thunder’s starting lineup permanently on December 12, the rookie has averaged 13.7 points per game and hit this over 11 times in 17 tries.

We also like the youngster’s matchup on Sunday as the Brooklyn Nets will be without Kevin Durant, who had been anchoring the team’s defence.
