The Simple Life icon dropped a huge bombshell at the beginning of the year, revealing that she had welcomed a son via surrogate, with husband Carter Reum – almost two years after they tied the knot.
She later unveiled his name as Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum in an extract from her upcoming memoir, and shared the first picture of their adorable new addition in a suitably beautiful photoshoot.
Fans were all blindsided by the news, and it turns out that her loved ones were also left completely in the dark – with the new parents keeping the details locked down until he had arrived.
The 42-year-old detailed the moment her mother, Kathy Hilton, met her new grandson for the first time – confessing that she first gave her a blue Chanel bag to cushion the shock.
‘I was like, if I give her Chanel first, maybe she won’t be so upset that I didn’t tell her about this,’ she told Rolling Stone. ‘I was holding the baby on my shoulder with a blanket over him, and then I just sat down. She’s like, “What is that?” And I was like, “A baby … meet your grandson.”
‘She’s like, “Is this yours?” And she starts crying. She’s like, “Let me hold him. He’s the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen in my life. Oh, he’s so beautiful.” She was just in tears.’
Paris also spoke of the lengths they went to in order to keep the secret, explaining that the only people in the know were the surrogate and their medical team – with the new mom arriving at the hospital in a brunette wig to meet her baby boy.
‘It was just like, “Oh, my God, I’m a mom,”’ she added of why they chose not to share their journey publicly. ‘My life has just been so public, my whole life has been, just, invaded; I felt like, for my baby, I just wanted him to come into the world and just be here and not have all this weird…’
Although the Stars Are Blind singer is keen to keep the little one under wraps as much as possible, she added: ‘He was so freaking cute. He came out camera-ready.’
Despite only becoming parents just a few weeks ago, the couple are already planning to add to their brood, and have undergone further IVF treatments to make this a reality.
Chatting to Glamour magazine about their baby joy, she explained: ‘We’ve done it [the IVF process] seven times… I have all boys [embryos]. I have 20 boys.
‘I just went through the process again a month ago, so I’m waiting for the results to see if there’s any girls.’
