Pakistan ‘warrior’ lauded for courageous act

Pakistan superstar Mohammad Rizwan has earned the respect of cricket fans after it was revealed the wicket-keeper-batsman spent two nights in hospital before taking on Australia in the early hours of this morning (AEDT).

While Pakistan lost its T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia, Rizwan was instrumental in his nation reaching an impressive first-innings total of 176.

Rizwan led Pakistan in runs scored with 67 from 52 balls, blasting four sixes and three fours.

And to put that performance in perspective, it was revealed that prior to taking to the pitch this morning, the 29-year-old had spent the previous two nights in ICU with a severe chest infection.

“Mohammad Rizwan developed a severe chest infection on the 9th of November after which he was admitted to the hospital,” said Pakistan team doctor Najeebullah Soomro.

“He spent two nights in the ICU recovering. He made an incredible recovery and was deemed fit before the match.

“We can see his great determination and tenacity that shows his spirit of performing for the country. And we can see how he performed today.”

Pakistan batting coach and former Australia star, Matthew Hayden, lauded Rizwan for his courage.

“This is a warrior, he’s been brilliant through the campaign and he’s got great courage,” Hayden said.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who opened the batting alongside Rizwan, praised his teammate.

“He’s a team man,” he said.

“The way he played today it was exceptional. When I saw him he was a little bit down. But when I asked him about his health he said, ‘no, I will play’.”
