Padma Lakshmi’s ‘Chow Chow Curry’ Recipe You Need to Try
Indian American author Padma Lakshmi is a much renowned cook. The former model has hosted the cooking competition program ‘Top Chef’ Season 1 and Season 2 and also has Emmy nominations for Outstanding Reality Host in 2009 and 2020. Padma Lakshmi often posts videos educating her fans about the Indian cuisine she grew up eating.
Her latest South Indian food recipe of ‘chow chow curry’ is recently creating a stir in the cooking pot! Chow Chow Curry is a South Indian delicacy utilised in everyday cooking for “sambhar”.
Padma Lakshmi posted the video with the caption saying, “It feels so good to be back home with my kid. We made a very simple stir-fried curry for dinner. It’s delicious, mild, and great to have with rice and dal or wrapped up in a paratha or roti.” Her daughter can be seen enjoying herself and assisting in the process of making the curry in the video. The two seemed to enjoy themselves a lot in the process, adding to the charm of cooking.

To prepare Chow Chow according to her recipe, also known as chayote, look for chayote, tomatoes, onions, and ginger in your kitchen.
- Once you have arranged all the vegetables on the shelf, chop them into medium size pieces.
- Then, heat a pan and roast cumin seeds and mustard seeds to a golden brown colour. Add curry leaves, onion, tomatoes, and sauce to the heating pan once you notice the beautiful golden shade.
- Remember to add salt to taste. Do not miss out on turmeric powder, and Kashmiri red chilli powder for the classic taste, either.
- Leave it for 4-5 minutes covered till it is boiled thoroughly. Once the wait is over, your aromatic dish will be ready to serve.
