Packers’ next order of business: What Aaron Rodgers return to Green Bay means for Davante Adams

Aaron Rodgers will be back under center for the Packers in 2021. Now the only question left is whether his favorite target will be joining him in Green Bay.

Like his quarterback, Davante Rodgers had been holding out from returning to the Packers. On Sunday, the duo hinted a return for both of them could be in the works by posting the same picture of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen from the ESPN documentary, “The Last Dance,” to Instagram.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the restructured deal with Rodgers will give Green Bay more cap space and help the team make a renewed attempt at extending Adams.

The 2021 season is Adams’ last in his current four-year, $58 million deal with the Packers.

Obviously, bringing Adams back would be a major boon for the Packers. A season ago, he hauled in 18 touchdown passes from Rodgers, tied for the third-most touchdown receptions in a single season. He also led the league in 98.1 receiving yards per game when he brought in 1,374 yards over 14 games. Since 2016, no quarterback-wide receiver tandem has connected for more touchdowns (53) than Rodgers to Adams. The receiver has also totaled the sixth-most receiving yards in that time span, with 5,639 yards.

If Rodgers is back, the chances of Green Bay at least having Adams return to the field for 2021 should be higher — but there is still plenty of uncertainty if Madden 22’s first 99 club member will re-sign with the Packers or continue his hold out.
