Packed Snowdon paths ‘covered in human excrement’ over Bank Holiday weekend

A guide shared how human excrement on one of mount Snowdon’s most popular paths, as visitors flocked to the area for Easter.

Gemma Davies even caught a man defecating on the mountain’s railway line. She told the BBC, she was “totally disgusted” at the state of the Llanberis path on Saturday morning with stools in paper cups and under stones. Ms Davies, who led a sunrise hike up Wales’ highest mountain on Saturday (April 16), said she was having to warn people to “mind the poo”, the problem was so bad.

Visitors flocked to beaches and national parks across Wales, with temperatures higher than in Greece, Turkey and the south of Italy, reports North Wales Live. Snowdonia National Park Authority said nothing unusual had been reported.

But Gemma claimed toilets at the summit were closed along with the café and “there were no toilets open at the bottom when we got to the bottom after a seven hour hike”. She added: “There was a lot of stool in paper cups, under stones, and as we were descending it was on the path.” As she and a group of visitors were descending, they were stunned at what they saw.

“I caught a guy going to the toilet on the railway line,” Ms Davies said. He quickly pulled up his pants and tried to make a quick getaway. But I had already seen it, my group had already seen it. And we had to walk past it as well.”

Hundreds of people were fined for dangerous parking as hikers flocked back to Snowdon when lockdown restrictions were eased last year, with the national park introducing pre-bookable only parking at some beauty spots to try and tackle the problem.

North Wales Police also removed several vehicles parked dangerously on the A5 in the Nant Francon area, particularly by Ogwen Lake, yesterday. They belonged to people spending some of their Easter break in Snowdonia.
