Oracle Cloud Infrastructure logs 125% India market growth in H1 FY23

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) business saw a 125% growth in the India market during the first half of 2022-23 compared to a year ago, said Chris Chelliah, senior vice president, technology & customer strategy, Japan & Asia Pacific.

The company also saw a rapid growth across the government sector with adoption by the likes of NITI Aayog, PM Gati Shakti and ONDC programmes, he told ET.

“We see demand and growth in consumption across industries driven by a need for personalised services,” said Chelliah.

He said the cloud and software firm sees strong demand for AI-based solutions within its offerings, especially on the supply chain solutions.

The firm saw up to 125% growth year-on-year in cloud consumption solutions during the first half of 2022-23, he said.

Cloud consumption refers to the usage of cloud applications or cloud infrastructure by customers. “During this time the company also saw rapid growth of its customer base, with almost 70% of Oracle’s customers in India signing long-term contracts with us. They are committing not just for one year or two years, they’re committing for multi years,” said Chelliah.

OCI has seen increasing demand from both the public sector and small and medium businesses (SMB), said Chelliah. The public sector business has grown fivefold in recent times, led by the digitisation initiatives, he said. “We have seen significant growth opportunities from the Indian SMB market from digital natives (startups) and mid-tier companies, including edtechs, fintechs, cooperative banks,” he said. This trend is also seen in the increasing number of mid-sized clients of the company from tier-2 and tier-3 cities where the company has increased its focus.

The firm has also seen many customers shut down their on-premise or physical data centres and move critical applications and workloads on OCI, as in the case of companies such as IFFCO and Manappuram Finance.

The company has two data centres or “cloud regions”, out of 41 global cloud regions, in India. Having a presence in both cloud application services and physical infrastructure has helped OCI convert a lot of customers who were looking to scale up from on-premises to the cloud hyperscaler environment, said the executive.

“We work very closely with them (customers) through our partners and system integrators. Partners are an integral part of our go-to-market strategy and we are fully geared to drive growth for each other with cloud opening so much business opportunity,” said Chelliah.
