Oppenheimer gets early morning releases in Mumbai due to high demand
The eagerly awaited film Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, is getting closer to release, and moviegoers have reacted enthusiastically to early bookings. Beginning this month, advance ticket sales started. Due to the overwhelming demand, movie theatre chains have also planned shows for the early hours of the morning. Oppenheimer is notable for being the first independent film to receive such a massive response before its release. Early morning screening had previously only been reserved for high-budget franchise films like Avatar: The Way of Water and Marvel Superhero films. Breaking records, a number of well-known chains in Mumbai have added 3.30 and 3.45 am showings to the film’s normal times.
With the release of mind-blowing films like Inception and Interstellar among many others, Christopher Nolan, who is known for playing with large ideas and concepts of time and space, has already made audiences’ trips to the theatre a memorable experience. The film follows the life of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is regarded as the “father of the atomic bomb”.
The plot has thousands of moviegoers so enthralled that tickets have already been sold. Almost 15,000 seats have reportedly already been reserved on IMAX, according to market analyst Girish Johar on Sunday. He anticipated that the excitement would only grow over the next few days. “More than 15,000 tickets in advance have been sold at IMAX sites in India for Oppenheimer. The fervour is such that few sites are even planning shows as early as 3.30 am. This craze is gonna increase with each passing day,” he tweeted.
The movie’s title character is portrayed by Cillian Murphy, well known for The Peaky Blinders. The physicist is well-known for his involvement in the Manhattan Project and for developing the first nuclear weapon. Oppenheimer, which stars Cillian Murphy as the narrative’s protagonist, also boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, and Florence Pugh. Importantly, the suspenseful film serves as Christopher Nolan’s first biographical film centred on real-life individuals.
Oppenheimer is scheduled to release theatrically on July 21.
