Operation Ouch Live Theatre Performance – Annabel Acott, LPGS
Dr Chris Van Tulleken and Dr Xand Van Tulleken are British doctors. They have hosted the TV show ‘Operation Ouch’ since it first aired in 2012. Operation Ouch is a British show which portrays crazy experiments and goes over the importance of looking after your body. The ninth series of the show, which aired on the CBBC in 2020, focuses on COVID-19. Dr Chris and Dr Xand offer ‘Try this at home’ experiments, which help the children watching the show to put their knowledge to test. The doctors sure do make the show engaging for the young watchers of the show!
The Operation Ouch Live Theatre performances took place from the 4th December 2021 to the 16th January 2022. They were performed at the Lyric Theatre in London. The doctors gave interesting facts about the body and also strategies for coping with hard times. They went over how you should not let anyone define you by your schoolwork, and that you should just try your best at school and not give up. These talks were extremely inspiring, especially when Doctor Xand spoke about the struggles he had when he was at school, and how he had managed to overcome them. They also had a question-and-answer session halfway through the show, which allowed the audience to ask the doctors questions regarding science. The show also contained many aspects of humour as well as science, which made it the perfect combination so it was not boring in any way whatsoever.
I interviewed Danielle Acott, who watched this performance with her husband and children.
“It really was fantastic,” she said “we all really enjoyed it and found it very funny!”
“I was really impressed by the knowledge of the doctors, and liked how they added humour to the show, rather than it being completely factual.” she went on to say.
“The talk about mental health at the end was really encouraging to the young people and adults alike. In this day and age, it is necessary to speak about our mental health and find ways of coping with it, so it was really to one’s liking when they discussed this.”
Danielle also told me that she would definitely go again and she recommends this to all families – especially those to take a keen interest in science!
Thank you to Doctor Chris and Doctor Xand for making this experience enjoyable and creating indelible memories for all who watched the show!
