Only 20% private schools in UP registered on RTE portal – Times of India
Lucknow: With only 64% disadvantaged children admitted to private schools under RTE, director general school education VK Anand has asked district magistrates to hold meetings with private schools to ensure all children allotted seats are admitted.
Under RTE Act, children belonging to economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups in recognized unaided private schools to the extent of 25% of the total capacity of their entry level classes, either pre-primary or class I.
An analysis of the lottery, through which seats are allotted to children in private schools, showed 1.24 lakh allotments done in the academic session 2022-23. Of this, 64% were converted into admissions. All admissions under RTE happen through an online portal where private schools are supposed to register.
However, data showed only 20% of the total private schools across the state have registered on the portal. UP has 1,04,823 private schools. Of these, 21,274 have registered on the portal. Anand has asked DMs to conduct meetings with the private schools to ensure 100% admissions.
Districts with below 50% conversions are Hapur (40%), Hathras (45%), Shahjahanpur (43%), and Varanasi (44%). The only district where all 100% children allotted RTE seats are admitted in private school is Hamirpur. Other districts with highest conversion rate are Kanpur Dehat (98%), Jaunpur (97%), Balrampur and Kushinagar (96%).
