Online education will impact physical universities: Sadagopan – Times of India

MANGALURU: The emergence of online education courses will impact physical universities in the coming days, said Prof S Sadagopan, former director IIIT-Bengaluru.
Sadagopan was delivering the Founder’s Day lecture on the topic ‘Technology and Life’, during the Founder’s Day Celebrations of Karnataka Bank, on Saturday. On the occasion, the private bank also launched its centenary year celebrations.
He shared that there are growing online course companies across the world, where one can learn ‘anywhere and anytime’. As a result, this will impact physical universities, which have existed for several years.

According to Sadagopan, every invention and innovation in the world is linked to the Indian Knowledge System. For example, education was started in India at Nalanda University. India invented zero. The proof on India’s invention of zero is found in museums of Saudi Arabia. Similarly with cars and aviation. History points out that there was Pushpaka Vimana and a chariot. “Therefore, it is important for every parent to ask their children to go back to history and learn about the Indian Knowledge System.”
Sadagopan also spoke about how new and advanced technology will take over in the coming days. “In healthcare, robotic surgery will be a common practice, and 6G, telemedicine, and super-app will be tomorrow’s telecommunication fields. In transportation, driverless cars and solar planes will be introduced. Drastic changes is taking place in all other fields,” he stressed.
P Pradeep Kumar, chairman of the bank, shared that the bank has been making a profit every quarter since its inception in 1924. Out of 99 years, the bank has paid dividends for 96 years, starting with a minimum of 8.25%. Besides, it is also one of the banks in India that was the first to introduce a core banking solution in the banking sector in 2000. Also, one of the banks from Dakshina Kannada called the cradle of banking in India, which is marching towards the completion of 100 years.
