One of Marvel’s Founding Avengers Is Getting a Horrific Power Boost

Wasp is one of the heroes joining Scarlet Witch in Marvel’s Darkhold storyline, as the event drastically changes Janet Van Dyne’s form and powers.

Wasp, one of the founding members of the Avengers, is getting a major power upgrade in Marvel’s Darkhold.

Renowned colorist and writer Jodie Bellaire will make her Marvel writing debut alongside artist Claire Roe in Darkhold: Wasp. The one-shot is one of many tie-ins to the Darkhold event, with Scarlet Witch recruiting Wasp, Iron Man, Blade, Black Bolt and Spider-Man to travel to Chthlon’s dimension in order to stop the dreaded threat. However, in order to travel to this dimension, each hero must read from the Darkhold, driving them insane in the process. Another character slated to play a major role in Darkhold is Doctor Doom.

Darkhold: Wasp will see Janet Van Dyne attempt to use her power to reclaim her story after her entire life is questioned. Will she be consumed by darkness or prove Scarlet Witch right when selecting her for this special team?

Marvel also released “Defiled” character designs by Darkhold Alpha artist Cian Tormey, featuring Janet Van Dyne transformed into a human/wasp hybrid monster. She has four wings protruding from her back, as well as sharp finger claws, stingers coming out of her legs and pinchers for a mouth. One question that remains unanswered is what will the long-lasting impact be on these Marvel heroes once Darkhold concludes? Will everyone revert back to their natural state and form, or will they stay in their “Defiled” form?

While the Darkhold was first introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it was repurposed for WandaVision, the first Marvel Studios show to debut on Disney+. Viewers saw it in possession of Agnes, aka Agatha Harkness, portrayed by Kathryn Hahn. Agnes/Agatha was the nosy neighbor of Scarlet Witch and Vision, who turned out to secretly be the person manipulating events in the background.
