One hundred young people to perform on Hackney Empire main stage
One hundred young people from east London will showcase their talents on the Hackney Empire’s main stage .
Young dancers, artists and musicians will take part in workshops at the venue from Tuesday to Thursday this week (October 25 to 27).
This will culminate in a final performance, Only Joy Aloud, on Friday at 7.30pm.
The performers, aged between 12 and 19, will be led by Hackney Empire’s artistic director, Yamin Choudury, and east London collective Boy Blue’s co-artistic director, Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy MBE.
Kenrick said: “Only Joy Aloud is an opportunity for young people to not only develop and progress in their creative endeavours, but also a space to appreciate and further understand social space and well being.”
Yamin added: “It’s a real honour to be collaborating with Boy Blue and Kenrick ‘H20’ Sandy on this unique project celebrating young people from across east London.
“I can’t wait to bring one hundred 12 to 19-year-olds into Hackney Empire to showcase the stories they’ve uncovered during this five-day project on our main stage.”
Only Joy Aloud is part of Hackney Empire’s Creative Futures programme, which has been running for 20 years.
Tickets are £11.15 and can be bought at hackneyempire.co.uk/book/.
