Olly Murs breaks down in tears over Caroline Flack ‘regrets’

Olly Murs broke down in tears over his close friend Caroline Flack whilst live on stage.

The singer, 38, dedicated part of his performance at the O2 Arena in London to his late friend, who died in 2020.

Olly and Love Island host Caroline were pals on and off screen as they even hosted a series of X Factor together.

In honour of his late friend, Olly sang a rendition of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

The star revealed he had “regrets” about not being there for Caroline, who tragically took her own life aged 40 back in 2020.

He explained: “Like I said earlier, it’s been an incredible four or five years and I know it’s been a really tough, crazy four or five years for every single one of you in this room.

“It’s going to be hard for me to do this but, in 2020, I lost a very good friend of mine, someone that I love very, very much.

“Her name is Caroline Flack and it is one of the toughest things that has happened in my life and it is really sad to see someone so amazing leave us but she has never left and she is always in my heart.”

Fighting back tears, Olly added he has “so many questions that I wanted answered and I am never ever going to get them answers”.

The singer and presenter urged the 20,000-strong crowd to reach out to someone they know if they’re going through a tough time.

Caroline was found dead last year on February 15 2020, a day after hearing the Crown Prosecution Service would go ahead with a trial for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton, back in December 2019.

Following the screening of an emotional documentary detailing her life, Olly told The Mirror: “It is so difficult to talk about it and it’s so difficult to even think about someone that I love a lot and she’s not here anymore.”

During the Channel 4 documentary Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death, Olly was seen breaking down in tears as he recalled memories with his close friend.

He divulged his “heart breaks” every time he thinks of Caroline, and it is painful to imagine the circumstances surrounding her death

Olly said: “I just know that my heart breaks every time I think of Caz and think of what she would’ve had to have gone through to take her own life and that’s going to hurt for a long time because we got on so well – we were great together.”

Later in the documentary, Olly spoke about the public’s negative reaction to him and Caroline presenting The X Factor in 2015.

The star admitted he only discovered they were losing their jobs when it became a news story.

Olly said: “I remember the final of The X Factor there was a big story and basically we were getting sacked after the show…

“It was an awful experience knowing that everyone hated us on the show.

“That X Factor experience for both of us was hard. But again Caroline, God, she got it so much more than me. I don’t know what it was.”
