Olivia Colman couldn’t look Paul Mescal in the eye after watching Normal People

Olivia Colman might be an Oscar-winning actor, but she’s still human.

The Broadchurch actor has revealed she was unable to look Paul Mescal in the eye after watching him in Normal People, despite the fact they were appearing in a film together.

Olivia, 47, and Paul, 25, are co-stars in The Lost Daughter, a psychological thriller that has been well-received by critics.

And despite Olivia’s status as a veteran actor, she admitted she came over ‘a bit giddy’ upon meeting Paul on set for the first time.

Paul, of course, is best-known for playing Connell in the BBC drama Normal People, which depicts a long-lasting and complicated romance.

It also happens to contain the longest sex scene ever to be played on Irish television, and plenty of other passionate on-screen moments.

Olivia told The Sun: ‘I was a huge fan from watching Normal People and I was a bit giddy.

‘I couldn’t look him in the eyes when we first met!’

She described the Irishman as ‘so kind and nice and a good person,’ adding: ‘He’s just lovely. He’s the nicest and loveliest.’

‘He loves his family and he’s so brilliant in what he does,’ she said. ‘His work is beautiful.’

Olivia even claimed she had made up a scene in the new film in order to be able to flirt with Paul, but then quickly insisted she was joking.

(Probably because it’s totally plausible to have changed the script just to get a scene with the Kildare icon?)

With both actors being in such high demand, The Lost Daughter is expected to make waves after finally arriving on Netflix on December 31.

Paul and Olivia are joined by 50 Shades Of Grey actor Dakota Johnson, Peter Sarsgaard and Jessie Buckley in the stellar cast.

The Lost Daughter is based on the novel of the same name by Elena Ferrante, and centres on a university professor who becomes engrossed in the lives of a woman and her young daughter as she watches them on the beach.

Her life begins to unravel as she thinks back at the choices she made as a young mum.

The film represents Oscar nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut; she will also serve as a producer with Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren.

The Lost Daughter is on Netflix now.
