Ola | Uber: A year later, status quo: rider safety in harm’s way as Ola, Uber drivers exploit system loopholes
Synopsis
Ola and Uber drivers now have a new trick up their sleeves. Passengers are seeing cabs carrying different licence plates that don’t match with the vehicles they booked on the app. As always, passenger safety is the victim and the cab aggregators haven’t done much about it. The smokescreen is more visible.
What’s on a licence plate? Well, your safety. Shubhangi Tyagi, a 27-year-old software engineer living alone in the city, is a regular commuter using Ola and Uber cabs from Gurugram. On multiple occasions she has experienced either a different vehicle arriving for her pick-up or a vehicle with a non-commercial number plate. Does this ring bells? The experience is not uncommon in the city. We too experienced this while researching for the story.
