Ola Electric opens retail stores for selling scooters

Electric vehicle maker Ola Electric is opening retail stores across the country amid falling sales of its flagship Ola S1 Pro scooter.

“Opening up experience centres across the country. 20 already, more than 200 by March!,” tweeted Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal.

Sources have told ET that these stores will be company owned and operated.

ET reported on July 29 that the company had held internal competition to increase sales by allocating different regions to key executives within Ola following a fall in sales of S1 Pro, which costs around Rs 1,40,000.

The company then launched a sub Rs 1 lakh variant on August 15 called the S1.

Ola laid off around 1,000 employees, according to sources who spoke to ET as the company went ahead with another of restructuring.

The Bhavish Aggarwal-led firm may further cut costs which could lead to a reduction in its engineering workforce at the ride-hailing business.
