OJEE 2023 Medical, engineering counselling process to start by June last week – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Authorities of the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) under the skill development and technical education (SDTE) department will start the counselling process for medical and engineering seats in higher educational institutions in the state by June last week.
Though it had planned to start the process in the first week of this month, the delay in getting the seat matrix forced the authorities to extend the date.
Though the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was published on June 13, the JEE (Main) results were published on April 29. When asked about the delay in starting of OJEE engineering counselling, OJEE chairman Pravin Kumar Kar said they need to get seat matrix (final approved seats of technical colleges) before starting the counselling process.
“According to the process, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will have to hand over the data regarding final approved seats to the state government. Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) will also give no objection certificate (NOC) to the institutions against the seats approved by AICTE. Then the seat matrix comes to us. We will immediately start the counselling process after getting the seat matrix,” he added.
On medical counselling, Kar said the directorate of medical education and training (DMET) will give them a seat matrix to start the counselling process. “We will receive the seat matrix soon and start the counselling process tentatively by June last week,” he added.
Last year, counselling was conducted for more than 41,000 engineering seats in Odisha. After OJEE gets the seat matrix, the total number of seats for this year will come up.
Similarly, OJEE will conduct counselling for 85 percent of 1800 MBBS seats in the state. Apart from national level medical counselling, OJEE authorities will hold counselling for 11 government and two private medical colleges in the state. It will allot only 85 percent of MBBS/BDS seats from medical and dental colleges leaving the 15 per cent to all-India quota. Similarly, 15 percent seats have been reserved under NRI quota in private medical and dental colleges, sources said.
The state government will hold admission for 100 MBBS seats at the Saheed Rendo Majhi medical college and hospital at Bhawanipatna this year. This college has already received permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to hold admission from the academic session 2023-24.
