Ogie Diaz pays tribute to his mother who died, says won’t expect showbiz friends to visit wake
Ogie Diaz expressed his love for his mother, Carmen “Mameng” Diaz Pandaan, who passed away at the age of 87.
Diaz confirmed the death of Mameng on his personal Facebook page on Sunday, April 23, as he shared some of his favorite moments with his mother.
“Salamat sa lahat ng pakikiramay sa pagpanaw ng aking mahal na ina, si Aling Mameng, 87 [years old], hindi na kami choosy. At least, naipikit niya ang kanyang mga mata na kumpleto ang kanyang mga anak,” he said in the caption.
(Thank you for your messages of condolences following the death of my mother, Aling Mameng. Even if she’s 87 years old, we can’t complain. At least she will finally be able to rest after seeing her children are complete.)
Despite her passing, the talent manager said he is proud to have given his mother the life she deserves until her final moments.
“I’m proud to say na naibigay ko naman sa nanay ko ang lahat ng pangarap niya sa buhay. Salamat sa lahat ng sakripisyo at pagiging selfless, Nay! Mahal kita. Magkasama na kayo ngayon ni Tatay,” he added.
(I’m proud to say that I was able to help my mother reach her dreams. Thank you for all of the sacrifices and being selfless, Nay! I love you. You will finally be together with Tatay.)
The seasoned entertainment reporter also shared a glimpse of his mother’s wake, where he can be heard laughing at what the priest said about children providing support to their parents.
“Nakakalokah si Father sa wake ng madir,” he wrote on the video. (Father’s speech during my mom’s wake is so funny.)
In a separate post, Diaz also stressed that it is not the responsibility of his friends in the showbiz industry to be present during his mother’s wake, as receiving comforting messages or flowers is enough. “Sa tagal ko sa industriyang ito, hindi ko talaga naging ugali ang umasa. Kasi kahit naman itong kung anuman ang narating ko sa aking career eh di ko rin naman in-expect,” he said.
(Since I’ve been in the industry for a long time, it’s not been my personality to expect people to be present in my mother’s wake. Whatever I’ve made for myself and my career, I’ve never made an expectation.)
“Di ko rin inoobliga ang mga kakilala, kaibigan sa showbiz na porke magkaibigan kami ay dapat silang pumunta sa wake ng nanay ko. ‘Yung makiramay lang sa text or sa comment section or magpadala lang ng bulaklak, sapat na. Bonus na lang kung andun ang presensiya nila mismo sa wake. Kasi effort yon. At malalim ang appreciation ko doon,” he further added.
(I don’t oblige my acquaintances and showbiz friends that even if we’re on good terms, they would need to be present at my mother’s wake. Receiving consoling messages, comments, and sending of flowers is enough. It’s a bonus if they were present at the wake. Because that takes effort, and I deeply appreciate those.)
The TV personality also shared that he’s thankful for his mother’s 87 years of life, as he shared that she would be buried on April 28.
“Malungkot, oo. Pero mas masaya ako kasi masaya na ang nanay, dahil pahinga na siya. Na-enjoy naman niya ang 87 years of existence,” he said. “Salamat sa lahat ng pangungumusta nyo, pakikiramay at pagmamahal sa akin. Nay, you did a great job. Saludo ako sa ‘yo. Mahal kita, Nay!”
(I’m sad, yes. But I’m happy too because my mother is happy that she can finally rest. She was able to enjoy her 87 years of existence. Thank you for checking up, comforting, and loving me. Nay, you did a great job. I salute you. I love you, Nay!)
Diaz recently made headlines after speaking with Bimby Aquino, the son of Queen of all Media Kris Aquino, in a showbiz vlog regarding the condition of the latter. EDV
