Odell Beckham says goodbye to Browns in emotional letter

“Believeland” will always have a place in Odell Beckham Jr.’s heart.

On Saturday, the former Browns receiver shared an emotional note written to the Cleveland community, his home for the past two-and-a-half seasons, as he embraces the next chapter of his NFL career as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

“Believeland,” Beckham began the message on Twitter. “I want to thank the city of Cleveland for welcoming me with open arms. My goal was always to help bring a championship to the city of Cleveland from the first day I became a member of the Cleveland Browns.

“Through all the ups and downs, injuries and rehab, I am forever grateful to have played in front of some of the greatest fans ever,” he continued. Dawg Pound, I thank you for embracing me and showing me so much love!”

Beckham’s time in Cleveland officially came to an end this week after a dizzying few days of drama. Odell Beckham Sr., the father of the three-time Pro Bowler, had posted a video to Instagram showcasing all of the times his son didn’t get the ball from Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Browns then excused Beckham from multiple practices before he was released by the team.

In Saturday’s letter, Beckham expressed gratitude for Browns owners Jimmy and wife Dee Haslam, who gave him “the opportunity to be a member of [their] great organization.” He also thanked the front office, personnel, coaches, and players, including his pal and former LSU teammate, Jarvis Landry.

“Love to all my coaches and teammates, it was an honor and a privilege to have taken the field with you and to call you all my family,” Beckham wrote. “Y’all boys are 4 lifers with me!!! Mean that from my soul. My brother Juice we have been blessed to have played together at the highest levels. Thank you for always pushing me to be the best man and player that I can be. You’re truly a gift from God.”

Beckham then signed the note, “With Love and Gratitude, OBJ.”

On Thursday, Beckham agreed to a one-year deal with the Rams worth up to $4.25 million. The 29-year-old receiver had been linked to a number of teams ahead of the deal, including the Packers, Chiefs and Patriots. Beckham reportedly had his sights set on playing for a contender.

Beckham is expected to make his debut with the Rams on Monday night against the 49ers. With Rams receiver Robert Woods now out for the season with a torn ACL, it’s likely Beckham will have an even greater role with the team’s already explosive receiving corps that includes Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson.
