It was recently reported that NVIDIA will be bringing Path Tracing to Cyberpunk 2077, through a new feature called Overdrive Mode. Through this new kind of Ray Tracing, players can expect visuals that are “indistinguishable from reality.”

Keep in mind, Cyberpunk 2077 is already a title that has received plenty of visual upgrades off lately, DLSS 3 being the most recent one. However, through the Overdrive mode, NVIDIA plans to bring full ray tracing (path tracing) to the game.
Through this upgrade, players can expect accurate stimulation of light throughout the scene. Which will also help in bringing “physically correct shadows, reflections and global illumination on all objects.” From the previously shown technology preview video embedded below, players will be able to draw out comparisons for enhancements made to lighting in scenes, as well as frame rate improvements.
NVIDIA has now released a Full Ray Tracing Deep Dive video that provides players with a more detailed overview of this technology. The company says that this upgrade was only possible through the combination of NVIDIA GeForce’s new RTX 40 series GPUs and DLSS 3 and SER.
The video also tells us that full ray tracing “unifies all lighting effects into a single algorithm.” Through that, we receive more accurate and dynamic lighting, and also a major overhaul to the game’s fidelity. Moreover, every light source can now cast accurate shadows, and we can now see multiple light bounce diffusions in Cyberpunk 2077.
GeForce users can also experience this technology for themselves through Cyberpunk 2077’s Overdrive mode with maximum performance. Reflections, shadows, ambient occlusion and other improvements will be observed all around. “With DLSS 3 activated, 4K performance on a GeForce RTX 4090 will be boosted by 4.6X to 103 FPS, and on a GeForce RTX 4080, performance leaps by 5X to 74 FPS.”
DLSS 2 upgrades
On the topic of NVIDIA, Everspace 2 and LEAP are now out of early access with DLSS 2. Moreover, Like a Dragon: Ishin! and High on Life have also received DLSS 2 upgrades. All of these games receive performance boosting benefits from DLSS 2 for bringing maximum performance.
