NSW records 12,632 new cases of Covid-19 and 38 deaths

Coronavirus cases in NSW have increased, with the state recording 12,632 new infections and 38 deaths on Thursday.

Thirty-eight people died with Covid-19 in the latest 24-hour reporting period and 2578 were in hospital, NSW Health said on Thursday.

There were 12,632 new infections recorded, a slight increase on the day before.

Of the patients in hospital, 160 were being treated in intensive care units, slightly down from the day before when 170 patients were treated there.

On Wednesday 2622 Covid-positive people were in hospital.

There were 11,807 cases and 27 deaths on Wednesday, and 12,818 cases and 30 deaths on Tuesday.

The rate of people who have had their third vaccination shot against the coronavirus increased by 1.1 percentage points to 41.7 per cent.

The vaccination for children aged five to 11 increased as well from 40.3 per cent the day before to 41 per cent.

All other vaccination rates published daily by NSW Health were unchanged.

When the wait time between shot two and three was slashed last month to just three months between jabs, three million people became eligible for the booster.

But while the majority of older people have been boosted, most NSW residents under the age of 40 have not.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said on Thursday he was disappointed that more young people hadn‘t taken the opportunity.

“I encourage every mum, dad and grandparent to tell their younger family members there is no time to waste. Get the jab,“ he told The Sydney Morning Herald.
