Novak Djokovic meltdown as temper boils over in French Open final against Ruud

Tempers flared in the first set of the French Open as Novak Djokovic started arguing with the umpire. The world No 3 accused the official of rushing him during what had already been a long first set against Casper Ruud.

Djokovic lashed out at the umpire as he neared the business end of the first set against Ruud. The Norwegian took an early break but the 36-year-old was able to claw it back.

At 5-6, the Serb found himself serving to stay in the set for the second time. And he took the opportunity to vent his frustrations to chair umpire Damien Dumusois as he claimed the official wasn’t giving them enough time in the changeovers.

“Where is the rush? Why are you rushing?” the 22-time Major champion asked. But Dumusois hit back at Djokovic’s claim and replied: “I’m not.”

But Djokovic continued to argue his case, adding: “Wait for us to sit down and then call the score. Can you call the score when we come down or not?

“We’re playing one hour and 10 minutes for one set, best-of-five Grand Slam on clay. I mean, you’re rushing the score. There’s 10 seconds left.”

The umpire replied: “You can see that I’m really trying to understand,” but Djokovic cut him off and clarified that he was talking about the changeover instead of the shot clock between points.
