Novak Djokovic kicks off at umpire with plea as Wimbledon crowd intervene

Novak Djokovic was not happy with umpire Fergus Murphy midway through a tense third set of the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic was already a break down heading into what turned out to be a mammoth 27-minute long game featuring seven break points.

Already seemingly agitated by the umpire and the rowdy Wimbledon crowd, Djokovic was noticably using up all of his service clock – at one point being given a time violation. Then, during the fourth game of the third set, Djokovic realised the timer was starting earlier than he thought it should have been.

That appeared to irk the Serbian tennis icon, who confronted the umpire over the clock. “You have to wait until I get the towel,” Djokovic began. Umpire Murphy responded: “We don’t wait till you get the towel. When you pass the baseline, we call the score.

But that appeared to only anger Djokovic, who came up to confront the official. He added: “What do you mean?

“I cannot get the towel from the ball kid so I have to go myself and get the towel. Why do you… how do you?” Djokovic then had to pause while the crowd were shouting over him, seemingly making the reigning champion more mad.

“If I am not able to get the towel from the ballkid, I have to get towel but you start the time. How is that… You do it for everybody? Procedure?
