Djokovic went into the match as a strong favourite having not lost on Centre Court for 10 years as he looked to secure a record-equalling eighth trophy.
But Alcaraz stunned the 23-time Grand Slam champion with a historic five-set victory to win Wimbledon for the first time in his young career.
Djokovic, 36, was quizzed if it was the start of a great rivalry with Alcaraz but responded by hinting at retirement.
‘I would hope so, for my sake (smiling),’ Djokovic said. ‘He’s going to be on the tour for quite some time. I don’t know how long I’ll be around.’
During the final, Djokovic lost his head on several occasions and at one point he smashed up his racket, causing damage to the net post as he received a warning and was booed by fans.
Asked to explain his actions, Djokovic added: ‘There’s no much to talk about that.
‘[It] was frustration. I had break points in the second game. Yeah, just tough, tough couple of points.
‘He played amazing to break my serve, which was enough to win the fifth [set].’
Djokovic was pushed for more of an answer but said: ‘It was a frustration in the moment. I answered to your colleague two minutes ago about that. There’s not much to say about that.’
