Not a bad point at Bromley says Dagenham & Redbridge boss McMahon
Dagenham & Redbridge boss Daryl McMahon had mixed emotions after his side’s 1-1 draw at National League play-off rivals Bromley at chilly Hayes Lane on Tuesday.
Josh Hare gave Daggers a first-half lead and they looked set to claim a vital victory, until Ben Krauhaus scrambled home an 87th-minute equaliser for the hosts.
That kept Bromley above McMahon’s men in the table on goal difference and the boss told the club website: “It’s a tough place to come, a difficult game. It’s always hard when you come here against Bromley, they’re a side in good form as well.
“We’re disappointed we haven’t won the game in the end, having been leading 1-0 and having some good opportunities as well in the game. And disappointed with the way we conceded the goal.
“We felt that although they clashed heads [Josh Walker and Omar Sowunmi] we had the ball, so we felt it was back into our control the ball should’ve come, the ref give it to them for whatever reason.
“We’ve got to defend it better, without a doubt we have to do that, but the initial bit we had the ball so I’m disappointed with the referee for that.
“We played a different shape. We haven’t played 4-3-3 loads, there’s bits of it that were really good, bits we need to work on.
“I thought from defending then transitioning to attacking we could’ve done better in possession of the ball to move it through them quicker. But that’s little bits I’ve got to work on with the team now.
“Their effort, endeavour, work ethic, the team have been terrific in terms of that, and it’s definitely something to build on.”
Junior Morias headed into the side netting and Dean Rance fired just over before Hare’s free-kick found the bottom corner on 36 minutes.
“You aim towards that back post and hopefully everyone misses it and it goes in. It was a great delivery and Josh has got that,” added McMahon.
“Josh has been outstanding this season, he’s a player that can probably go unnoticed because he’s very low maintenance but he does his job every week, he’s really reliable, probably the same as Sam Ling on the other side, a player who you know what they are going to do on Saturdays and Tuesdays.”
Bromley posed more of a threat in the second half, although Josh Walker had a chance to double the Daggers’ lead but saw his shot saved by Reice Charles-Cook.
And the hosts got their reward through Krauhaus, before fellow substitute Adam Marriott had a header ruled out for offside.
“We were probably worth it [a win],” said McMahon. “I know the last 10 minutes they stuck it on us a little bit and moved the ball well. They’ve got good players, they’ve brought some good players on as well. They’re in good form.
“So from that aspect, disappointed yes, but looking at the overall picture I don’t think it’s a bad point away from home coming to Bromley.”
McMahon’s men will now focus on their home game against lowly Yeovil Town on Saturday, which is also the club’s annual Daggers Celebrate Diversity Day, with discounted tickets on offer.
And the manager is hoping to give a big crowd plenty to cheer, adding: “Yeovil have really picked up under Mark Cooper who has gone in there and changed it around.
“We’ll have a good look at them in preparation for Saturday and hopefully we get a good crowd on our Diversity Day, hopefully we get as many people as we can.
“It’s a great cause and a great thing the club do, and hopefully we can get a win.”
