A video of a woman embroiled in a physical altercation with a man has been circulating on social media. The woman hits the man with slippers. It is being claimed that the incident took place at the Congress office in Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh and the woman was a chief guest at a flag hoisting program where she was harassed. The claim suggests that she thrashed the perpetrator. Twitter user ‘Rajni Sharma T. A. B Sanatani’ posted this clip and accompanying claim, where it amassed more than 4,000 views at the time of writing. (Archive link)

Alt News performed a keyword search on YouTube to verify the visuals. ETV Andhra Pradesh covered the incident in a video story dated August 15, 2014. The outlet said that a spat ensued between YSR Congress Party workers during a flag hoisting ceremony in Karimnagar.


Upon further research, we also found an NDTV report dated August 15, 2014. According to the article, the woman seen in the video is Susheela, a senior leader in the women’s wing of the YSR Congress party. In the video, Susheela is beating District Chief Bhaskar Reddy with slippers. She had also accused him of not keeping her informed about party events and denying her the post of the district women’s wing chief. In addition to this, she had also accused other party workers of assault. However, YSRC shrugged off the incident as an internal matter.


To sum it up, a seven-year-old video of a scuffle between YSRC workers was shared as a recent clash at the Congress office in Andhra Pradesh.
