We all want to live a greener lifestyle, but most of us feel we’re already doing as much as we can.

But what if there was an easy way to help save the planet that we hadn’t thought of before?

Well, there might be!

Because while nearly nine in ten households regularly recycle in the kitchen, fewer than half of us do so with bathroom products.

So, by turning our attention to the smallest room of the house, we can really make a difference.

Perhaps one of the reasons why we don’t recycle enough bathroom products is a lack of confidence – a survey by NIVEA found that more than a third of consumers felt they didn’t know how to.

Now the UK’s number-one skincare company is determined to change this. It has pledged to massively cut down on plastic use by making all its packaging refillable, reusable or recyclable by 2025.

But that’s not the only way it is helping customers become more eco-friendly – it has also put together a great list of simple tips to help everyone adopt better bathroom recycling habits.

So why not…

Recycle bottles properly

From shampoo to body lotion bottles, most are now recyclable. First make sure all the product is used up to prevent waste, then rinse it thoroughly.

Separate the bottle from the cap – as they’re probably made from different plastics – pop both in your recycling bin.

Taking off the label is also a good idea but not necessary with NIVEA’s Naturally Good Body Lotion as it’s made from the same material as the bottle.

Switch to plastic-free products

Our bathrooms contain huge amounts of plastic because no matter how many times it gets a soaking, the product inside stays pristine.

But ever more alternatives are coming onto the market, so look out plastic-free solutions such as NIVEA’s MagicBAR, which cleanses the skin without hurting the planet.

Use refillable containers

Sometimes we can’t avoid using plastic so if you do, try to make sure it’s made from reclaimed materials, can be used time and again and then recycled itself.

Why not try NIVEA’s Eco Refill Hand Soap, which comes with tablets that, when popped into the bottle and diluted, turn into soap?
