Nicolas Cage says he remembers being inside his mum’s womb

Nicolas Cage, 59, believes he can recall being “in-utero”, claiming that his very first childhood memories are from long before his own birth.

Speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the Renfield star prefaced his revelation by saying he knows it “sounds really far out” and can’t guarantee “if it’s real or not”.

However, the haunting images of “faces in the dark” with the sensation of being in his mother’s womb are almost impossible for the actor to forget.

He shared: “I know that sounds powerfully abstract, but that somehow seems like maybe it happened.

“Now that I am no longer in utero, I would have to imagine it was perhaps vocal vibrations resonating through to me at that stage.”

Nicolas was born directly into Hollywood as his mother, Joy Vogelsang, was a famed dancer and his father, August Coppola, was a film executive not to mention his uncle was the famed director Francis Ford Coppola.

Tragically, August died in 2009 at the age of 75 while Nicolas was the one to reveal that his mother had died in early 2021.

Having now lost both of his parents, the actor revealed his similarly-abstract idea of what lies beyond the grave.

He explained: “’They say that electricity is forever eternal. That the spark keeps going. I like to think whatever spark is animating our bodies, once the body passes on, that the spark continues to go.

“But whether or not that electricity has consciousness or not, who can really say?”

As the actor takes on the role of a lifetime, portraying the most notorious undead being Dracula, in Renfield, he admitted the legacy was “daunting”, but not for the reason fans may suspect.

The Oscar-winner hopes to do Bram Stoker’s character justice as the vampire’s tale “has been done poorly many times”.

He explained: “Even though he’s a supernatural character he’s really still about the human experience. This addiction to blood, you can replace that with alcohol, heroin or sex and that’s a very human issue.

“This curse of eternal life, what does that really mean? It means he’s going to get his heartbroken over and over again.”
