Nico Rosberg makes child apologise for calling him old nickname that he hates

Nico Rosberg made a child reporter apologise after the youngster branded him by an old nickname live on air in a light-hearted moment during the Hungarian Grand Prix. The incident happened as Rosberg co-commentated the Hungarian Grand Prix with youngsters as part of the special F1 junior feed.

Rosberg had shared the nickname earlier on in the show but clearly had not intended for it to be used again. F1 junior presenter Scarlett said: “Good luck Britney, I hope you do well.”

But, Rosberg quickly fired back: “No Scarlett that was not cool. I share a secret there with you guys, that was not cool at all.” Scarlett retaliated again: “Thank you Britney.”

But, Rosberg was not happy and demanded she stopped. The 2016 champion commented: “Please apologise.” Scarlett replied: “Sorry.”

Rosberg accepted the apology but quickly walked out of the commentary booth. Commentator Harry Benjamin grinned as he told Scarlett that she was “playing with fire”.

It is believed Rosberg was first handed the nickname during his debut season in F1 back in 2006. Mark Webber branded Rosberg “Britney” after the German driver crashed into the back of him at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The contact damaged his front wing and Rosberg crashed out. As he passed the wreckage Webber told his race engineers: “Britney’s in the wall.” The moniker is a reference to Britney Spears due to Rosberg’s blonde hair. But F1 fans quickly saw the funny side with many praising Scarlett for making the remark.

@MrJamesCosgrove typed: “Big shoutout to Scarlett from Sky’s F1 Juniors coverage who said ‘bye Britney’ when Nico Rosberg left the commentary box earlier. Highlight of the weekend.” @chrisbrodie12 added: “The young girl calling Nico Rosberg Britney, then getting a real telling off from him and told to apologise..priceless.”

@formulawah posted: “The girl on F1 juniors called Nico Rosberg Britney. He was like excuse me!!!! This stuff is actually fun I like it.” @MacAndEz2 wrote: “‘Please apologize’ lmaooooooo whatever you say Britney.” (sic)

Rosberg had opened up on the nickname in front of the F1 junior presenters just eight laps before the falling out. He explained: “Do you know the nickname they used to give me? Can you guess, I had long blonde hair. What was the nickname the other drivers gave me?”

With help from Benjamin, Scarlett answered: “Britney Spears.” Rosberg responded: “Yes, they called me Britney, Was that cool? That was not cool right?”
