Niantic Shares Pokemon Go Five Year Anniversary Video, Details India Growth Plans

Niantic is celebrating the 5th anniversary of Pokemon Go with a new video that focuses on the community. The developer has also talked about its plans for growth of Pokemon Go in India.

The new video highlights how Pokemon Go started off by being a viral success across the globe and continues to grow with new content, leagues, and a massive community. The game has gathered over 1 billion downloads and it has a dedicated player base in more the 150 countries.

While talking about the fifth anniversary of Pokemon Go, Omar Tellez, Vice President of Strategic Partnership at Niantic, discussed the company’s plans for growth in India. Tellez said, “We are elated to surpass the 5-year milestone and as the game embodies, the journey of exploring new possibilities has just begun! We have been present in India from the beginning and have built a thriving community of Pokémon GO trainers. Through 2020 and 2021, India has ranked among our key growth markets. We are now taking this relationship to the next level with dedicated conversations, events, celebrations and outreach in the coming months.”

In recent months, Niantic has improved its focus on the Indian region by launching country-specific social media handles on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as recruiting Growth Scouts to enhance local partnerships in the country. The company had also offered exclusive rewards to Indian players for Pokemon Go’s 5th anniversary celebrations. Indian players can expect even more exclusive Pokemon Go content in the future.
