Next Tottenham manager latest with Nagelsmann watched, Paratici choice

With Antonio Conte yet to return from Italy, speculation is increasing that Tottenham will look to sack the Italian in the near future. Express Sport brings all the latest rumours on who Tottenham are being linked with and when a decision could be made.

Julian Nageslmann monitored

Thomas Tuchel is no longer available as an option for Tottenham following Bayern Munich’s sudden decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann. Bayern lost top spot in the Bundesliga last week following their defeat to Bayer Leverkusen and decided now was the time to part ways with Nagelsmann and bring Tuchel in.

While Tuchel can no longer take the job at Spurs, it creates an opportunity for Tottenham to bring in the man they originally wanted to replace Jose Mourinho. According to the Evening Standard, Spurs will ‘monitor developments’ on Nagelsmann’s next move in the coming days.

The 35-year-old is still regarded as one of the top young managers in world football and was the youngest coach in Bundesliga history when he took over at Hoffenheim in 2016 at the age of 28.

Fabio Paratici’s first choice

All options are on the table for Tottenham at the moment, but Fabio Paratici has reportedly ‘heading the succession planning’ and his ideal target is former Spain boss Luis Enrique. Paratici is currently facing an uncertain future in the game himself having recently been handed a two-and-a-half-year ban from Italian football and the prospect that is extended for the whole of Europe.

Daniel Levy has a decision to make on whether Paratici gets involved in the next managerial appointment should Conte be sacked. But it’s suggested that Paratici would push for Enrique to come in as Conte’s replacement.

Mauricio Pochettino stance

Speaking just last year, Pochettino referred to Tottenham as “his club” and he’s previously indicated that he has unfinished business in north London. The Argentine became a fan-favourite at Tottenham during his five-year stint at the club having led them to a historic Champions League final and coming within a whisker of winning the Premier League title.

He’s been out of work since being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain last summer with strong links to taking over at Real Madrid. But there’s a sense that Tottenham could look to bring Pochettino back to the club, particularly if nobody else currently available would be willing to step in.

Brighton fear Roberto De Zerbi exit

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber recently joked that he lives “in fear” of receiving a phone call from clubs interested in stealing Roberto De Zerbi away from the club. The Italian has earned rave reviews for building on Graham Potter’s success at the Amex Stadium and has the club on the verge of securing European football next season.

His talents haven’t gone unnoticed and is said to be on the list of options Tottenham are considering as Conte’s potential replacement. “I live my life in fear of a phone call! Every times the phone rings I’m looking and hoping that it’s not from another club!” Barber told talkSPORT.

“Joking aside, obviously, Roberto has done a fabulous job. We know that anyone at our club that does well, just the same as any other club, gets onto the radar of the biggest clubs in the world.”
