Next James Bond: Tom Hardy steams ahead as Lashana Lynch slips behind

Daniel Craig has finally stepped down as James Bond following the release of No Time To Die. After 15 years in the role, it is time for Bond bosses at MGM and Eon to choose another actor to take over. Lately, there has been a lot of talk over whether a woman should become the new version of Bond, following Lynch’s debut as a new 007, Nomi. But now, the Bond odds have fallen against her.

Ladbrokes’ latest odds offering has placed Lynch at a sturdy 5/1.

The firm’s Jessica O’Reilly said: “Interest in Lashana Lynch has tailed off recently following her comments on a female Bond, leaving punters piling into Tom Hardy, James Norton and Idris Elba instead.”

The aforementioned comments came from an interview where Lynch said: “If we constantly say: ‘Woman, you are now taking over a man’s role’ instead of establishing our own rightful position in this space then we are not doing right by our sex.”

“We’re teaching our young girls that we can only be a replacement, that we are not good enough to have our own space, which is bizarre to me and also a real mind… It’s a mind-mess that I don’t want to teach my daughter, nor will I.”

Currently, Lynch is two positions off of being the leader in the 007 race, behind Tom Hardy.

Hardy leads the pack with a staggering 5/2.

The star has had the strongest odds since rumours hit last year that he had already been hired by Bond bosses – claims that he disputed.

He isn’t guaranteed the spot just yet, however, as McMafia actor James Norton is just behind him with an impeccable 3/1.

Norton is followed closely by Bridgerton heartthrob Regé-Jean Page.

The British-Zimbabwean actor saw his odds spike over Christmas when the Netflix show reached staggering popularity, in turn pushing viewers to fan-cast him as the super spy.

He now has an incredible 3/1 on the Bond odds.

However, he himself is not certain the casting will happen.

Page said earlier this year: “If you’re a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown that people regard well, then people start saying the ‘B’ word.

“It’s like a merit badge. You get the ‘B’ word merit badge.”

With a smile, he added: “I’m very, very glad to have the badge. I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it’s a badge.”

Also in the running to become the next Bond is Lord of the Rings star Luke Evans with 8/1, and The Suicide Squad actor Idris Elba with 9/1.

The Witcher actor Henry Cavill is also in top ten, with a decent 10/1.

Who does the former 007 actor, Daniel Craig, think should take over from him?

He said: “Not my problem.”

James Bond No Time To Die is in cinemas now.
