Newcastle ‘submit swap deal bid for Lucas Digne’ as Everton ace responds to transfer offer
Newcastle have made a player-plus-cash bid involving midfielder Sean Longstaff for Everton left-back Lucas Digne, according to reports. The Magpies are now starting to ramp up their January transfer business after striking a £12million deal to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
The England international touched down on Tyneside on Wednesday afternoon to undergo a medical and put the finishing touches on his move.
Yet Newcastle’s spending won’t stop there with another full-back, centre-back and striker now on the agenda.
The club’s Saudi-backed consortium are willing to dig their hands deep into their pockets to preserve Newcastle’s Premier League status.
Sky Sports News are now reporting that the Magpies have tabled an offer of £22.5million – plus midfielder Longstaff – to sign Digne.

But Digne would in fact be keen on joining Chelsea – who are now weighing up a move.
The Blues need cover at full-back after losing Ben Chilwell for the rest of the season.
Reece James is also out for eight weeks with a hamstring injury.
Everton boss Benitez is a big fan of Longstaff, who he previously worked with during his time at Newcastle.
That’s why the Magpies have decided to chance their arm and attempt to include him as part of the deal in a bid to entice the Toffees.
Longstaff appears to be settled at Newcastle though after forming a new midfield partnership with Joelinton under Eddie Howe.
However, the Newcastle boss is willing to place his trust in those upstairs in charge of the club’s transfer business.
A striker is also on the agenda after Newcastle lost Callum Wilson to a calf problem against Manchester United.
Championship hotshot Ben Brereton-Diaz is one of the names on their radar.
