New Vampire Survivors Couch Co-Op Details Revealed, And Online Co-Op Could Be Coming
Vampire Survivors developer Poncle has revealed more details about how the recently announced couch co-op mode will work. As a part of a free update on August 17 on all platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, you’ll be able to play with up to four people, unlock new Achievements, use new weapons, and more.
Thanks to an Xbox blog post, we know you’ll share a single screen with everyone. Before you load into a game, each player will have to select a different character to play as. Leveling up will be a bit different, too. The XP bar will function the same way, but each level-up will only be granted to one player, as each member of the group is rotated through in order. The amount of weapons you can carry is determined by how many people you’re playing with. If you or a buddy happens to die, they’ll turn into a coffin and revive over time, and if their coffin isn’t protected, Poncle teased that something may happen.
Lastly, there’ll be a new item introduced called The Friendship Amulet. It’s one of the possible choices on the level-up screen, and it ranks up a random weapon for each player. But it’ll require the leveled-up player to choose it instead of a rank-up for a specific weapon that they might prefer.
The newly Added achievements aren’t tied to couch co-op. They can be earned by playing single-player or with friends.
The team went on to explain the reasoning for adding couch co-op was because the game is named Vampire Survivors, and it “felt a bit awkward that it’s a game for only one Vampire Survivor.” The blog post goes on to explain that the reason why online co-op hasn’t been added in is that it’s “an order of magnitude or two more complicated to make right now,” but it teased that the team might already be looking into it.
