New leak shows off Mobvoi’s TicWatch Pro 5 that could come with Wear OS 3

TL;DR

  • A render of Mobvoi’s next-generation TicWatch has leaked online.
  • The leak claims the new TicWatch may ship with Wear OS 3 and a Snapdragon W5 Plus chip.
  • Mobvoi may skip a generation and call the device the TicWatch Pro 5.

If you’ve been waiting for news on Mobvoi’s next smartwatch, you can stop waiting. A render of Mobvoi’s next-generation TicWatch has leaked online with a few details.

Today, well-known leaker Kuba Wojciechowski did what they do best, took to Twitter to post up a new leak. The new leak appears to be Mobvoi’s upcoming TicWatch, possibly giving us our very first look at the device.

It’s revealed that the gadget may be called the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 instead of the TicWatch Pro 4. If you’re wondering why the company is skipping a number, it’s not for the same reason Samsung went from the Galaxy S10 to the Galaxy S20. Rather this has more to do with superstition in Chinese culture that considers the number four to be a symbol of bad luck.

Wojciechowski also claims that the smartwatch will come with a Snapdragon W5 Plus chip and Wear OS 3. When Qualcomm launched its new wearable platforms, it was announced that Mobvoi would be the first to debut the Snapdragon W5 Plus chip. This watch was scheduled to launch in 2022, but those plans fell through.

From the image, we can see that the design is a little different from its predecessor in a few ways. One noticeable change is it appears to have gone from two crowns to one. It also features a textured rim instead of the smooth rim of the TicWatch Pro 3. Finally, the bezel seems to have slimmed down a bit.

In our review of the TicWatch Pro E3, we gave it a 4 out of 5 stars with our complaints being iffy activity and sleep tracking, cheap strap, and aging OS. Hopefully, this new TicWatch will be able to correct those missteps.
