New Law scholarship by UK will make legal qualification open to all – Times of India

Law Training Centre launches ‘Open to All Scholarship‘ to remove financial barriers to legal qualifications.
Online legal education pioneer, Law Training Centre, has announced its new ‘Open to All Scholarship’, launching from August 1, 2023, which aims to make a career in law accessible to people from all backgrounds.

The scholarship is open to international students in any location, including anyone residing in India. This offers an opportunity for Indian learners to study from home and qualify while in India to practice law in the UK.
The new scholarship will be available for learners wanting to study the CILEX, CLC, and NALP courses along with the Notarial Academic Training Course. Anyone wanting to qualify as a solicitor by studying the SQE1 or SQE2 can apply for the existing Access To Law SQE Scholarship, which has already been awarded to 97 applicants – worth nearly £100,000 in value with no applicants having yet been refused.
Recipients of the ‘Open to All Scholarship’ will receive a grant of up to £1,558 (Rs 164 lakh) depending on their chosen course.
Unlike many other scholarships, the application process has been designed with ease in mind for applicants in keeping with the principle of making the scholarship “open to all.” Commenting on this choice, Eve Dullabh, co-founder and director of Education at Law Training Centre said, “We’ve personally experienced how invasive a lot of scholarship and bursary applications are, which can be discouraging, so we wanted to take a completely different approach.” As part of this, there are no set deadlines with applications considered on a rolling basis.
There are no restrictions on applying for the scholarship so long as the applicant is not a recipient of one of Law Training Centre’s other scholarships.
Asked about the decision to allow international students to apply for the scholarship, Dino Dullabh, co-founder, and director of Strategy at Law Training Centre said, “We recognize that many overseas learners want to study our courses, and though we’ve always kept the prices of our courses as low as we can, we know that the cost of an English qualification can be difficult to afford for many. We wanted this scholarship to help those learners so that ambitious and skilled people in places like India can build a better career for themselves whatever their financial status.”
The news comes after the signing of a memorandum of understanding in June between the Bar Council of India, The Bar Council of England and Wales, and the Law Society of England and Wales to strengthen cooperation and legal exchange. As part of the move, regulations were recently announced that permit the practice of home jurisdiction law by English and Welsh lawyers in India, and vice versa.
