New Book Shop Opens in Thames Ditton – Anna Squire ( Tiffin School)

Books are portals for knowledge, escapism, truth, history and imagination. Some people say they don’t like to read whilst others cannot wait to turn the page of a new book. I love to read and believe everyone should too! To start your journey into the world of words you must venture with an open mind to all the genres and styles on offer. It does not mean you must love every single book it means finding that story the one that has you forgetting about reality and guiding you into the vast stretches of paper and ink that you want to never end.

So come to the village of Thames Ditton, where a brand-new independent bookstore founded by Megan Warrington is tackling the exciting task of getting people into reading. Megan started ‘Dennys Books’ on her love for books. Whilst studying Publishing for her degree, Megan developed a keen eye and understanding of the inner works of the writing world. Dennys Books has a lovely array of different genres, best sellers, local and upcoming authors. Filling the gap in the market with warmth and words. Not only does the shop have books but cards and handicrafts from local artists, a perfect place to get a gift for someone or even for yourself.

The pandemic has changed our habits greatly not just for the worse but for the better. More and more people are choosing to shop local to support small independent businesses, that truly care about their customers and the service they provide. That is Dennys attraction, the opposite of big chains like Waterstones for example. It focuses on you, the individual, catering to your tastes and interests. If there is a book, you would like to read and not in stock Dennys Books will happily order it for you.

In the New Year Dennys Books will be working with local youth organisations, to bring young people together. Megan believes that everyone should read especially from a young age as ‘reading young educates children in literacy and empathy’. We can learn from a story held within bound pages, reading these stories releases underlying messages and lessons. Dennys Books aims to become a community hub, accessible to everyone of all reading abilities.

The bookstore is very welcoming with its name Dennys being a way for Megan to honour her family’s old book shop in London which served clientele from the 1800s’ to the late 1930s. Many of the famous book retailers we know such as Waterstones and Foyles take their names from their founders. Denny is one of Megan’s family names.

Megan kindly offered some book recommendations, for children and adults, so why not pay this new wonderful, little bookshop in Thames Ditton a visit and let your imagination be free to explore the wonder of words. Read and unlock their powerful messages. Dennys Books is open until 4:30 pm on Christmas Eve and there is a convenient car park in the village. Cafés to refuel, a grocer, a baker, a florist, gift shop, art galleries, all complemented of course by Dennys Books.
