Netflix to roll out short-clip feature for kids to compete with TikTok

Netflix is reportedly rolling out a short-clip features aimed at kids in its latest effort to compete with TikTok and lure the next generation of viewers to its platform.

The “Kids Clips” feature, which is rolling out on Netflix’s app, uses a TikTok-like interface to deliver child-friendly content, Bloomberg reported.

Netflix will add new content for the feature daily, the report said.

And notably, while TikTok and Instagram Reels generally serve up videos in portrait, Netflix’s Kids Clips’ videos will be designed to be viewed in landscape, Bloomberg said.

The feature will build on a feature that launched earlier this year called “Fast Laughs,” which specifically surfaces comedy clips.

When it comes to Kids Clips’, Netflix will limit the number of videos kids can watch in one sitting to 10 to 20, according to Bloomberg.

Netflix will start rolling the feature out as a test this week in the US and some Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America, as well as Canada, Australia and Ireland, Bloomberg reported.

The new Netflix feature was first discovered in hidden code by iOS developer Steve Moser, according to Bloomberg, and the company confirmed its launch.

Representatives for Netflix did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.

It’s Netflix’s latest effort to not only attract a younger generation of viewers, but also to get people to watch a greater range of their content.

Last year, the company introduced a “shuffle” feature, allowing viewers to cycle randomly through shows.

Shares of Netflix were down about 0.25 percent in pre-market trading Tuesday.
