Rick Astley was struggling to contain his nerves before taking to the stage at Glastonbury today.
The Never Gonna Give You Up singer posted a video to his Instagram stories as he held a shot for dutch courage moments before his performance.
“I’m about to go on stage at Glastonbury I am slightly nervous which is hence why I’m having a Jager,” he said, as he raised a shot glass to the camera.
Surprisingly, given his lengthy career, it was the 57-year-old’s first time playing the legendary festival.
Wearing a peach suit with a black t-shirt, he displayed no sign of the nerves as he took to the Pyramid stage at noon to open the day with a hit filled performance.
Alongside his own hits he surprised the crowd with a storming cover of Harry Styles smash hit As It Was.
His own performance wasn’t his first of this year’s festival as Rick joined indie-rock band Blossoms on the Woodsies Stage at 6pm yesterday.
He had previously performed with the group in 2021 in a tribute concert to The Smiths.
Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis confirmed the rumour that he would be taking to the stage with Blossoms. Speaking on BBC Radio 2 on Friday, she replied simply “yep” when asked about the rumour.
Blossoms also confirmed it beforehand by taking to their Instagram to post a picture of them with the pop legend taken at Glastonbury yesterday.
