Nearly two million fly off for half-term sun

At least 1.7million people will make the most of the break and cheaper Covid tests to head overseas, according to easyJet holidays.

Customer director Matt Callaghan said: “With foreign travel becoming a lot easier and simpler, we’re seeing even higher levels of consumer confidence in booking holidays abroad for the rest of this year.”

Around 3.8 million Britons have plans to go away during the remainder of this year. Spain tops the list of holiday destinations, followed by France, Italy, Greece and Cyprus.

Meanwhile, there will be an “autumn rush” on the roads with drivers taking an estimated 19.4 million leisure trips in the UK between tomorrow and Sunday, says research by RAC Breakdown. Morocco has banned flights to and from the UK due to the rising rate of Covid cases. Rory Boland of Which? said: “Package holidays will be cancelled and customers will be able to rebook or claim a refund within 14 days.”
