NCERT modifies syllabus, chapters on ‘Mughal Empire’ from Class 12 History book removed – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has revised its books for various classes, including the Class 12 History book by dropping the chapters on the Mughal empire. The change will apply to all the schools that follow the NCERT syllabus throughout the country.
From the Class 12th History book ‘Themes of Indian History-Part 2,’ chapters related to ‘Kings and Chronicles; the Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)’ have been removed. Just like this, NCERT will also remove some poems and paragraphs from the Hindi textbooks.
According to the NCERT, all the recent changes will be applicable from the current academic session 2023-2024.
Apart from History and Hindi textbooks, the NCERT has also revised the Class 12 Civics book. Two chapters have been removed from the book named, ‘American Hegemony in World Politics’ and ‘The Cold War Era.’
Among these changes, two chapters from the Class 12 textbook ‘Indian Politics after Independence’ have also been removed which are titled, ‘Rise of Popular Movements’ and ‘Era of One Party Dominance.’
NCERT has also made changes in Class 10 and Class 11 textbooks. Chapters including ‘Democracy and Diversity,’ ‘Popular Struggles and Movements,’ and ‘Challenges of Democracy’ have been dropped from the Class 10 ‘Democratic Politics-2’ book.
Chapters such as ‘Central Islamic Lands,’ ‘Clash of Cultures,’ and ‘Industrial Revolution’ have been removed from the Class 11 book ‘Themes in World History’.
Confirming these recently made changes, senior officials told that the new syllabus and books have been updated from this year and are being implemented in different schools.
