NBA’s in-season tournament will host its semifinal, final games in Las Vegas
The NBA is coming to Las Vegas — at least for a few games — even after the summer has ended.
The league’s new in-season tournament, which will initiate play during the 2023-24 season, will hold its semifinals and final on Dec. 7 and Dec. 9 in Sin City, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday.
Wojnarowski added that statistics from the event — except for the title game — will count toward the NBA’s regular season.
The league announced that full details of the event will be revealed Saturday at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas during the fan event NBACon and will be broadcast live on ESPN’s “NBA Today.”
The announcement, which will include commissioner Adam Silver, Victor Wembanyama, Paolo Banchero, Cade Cunningham, Anthony Edwards and Trae Young, will detail the structure, group drawings and locations of the event.
In February 2022, Silver said the success of the play-in round of the postseason led to the idea of this in-season tournament.
“In some ways, the players have been more receptive to the possibility of an in-season tournament, because the Play-In has been a bit more successful,” Silver said then.
It’s unclear how many teams will participate in the tournament, though previous reports have said it will include eight teams.
