He walked the red carpet with R Madhavan, CBFC Chairman Prasoon Joshi, Ricky Kej and more.
Cannes 2022 is special for Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the actor also celebrates his birthday on May 19. In an interview with a leading news portal, the actor opened up about his experience and delved into how the reception of cinema is different at the Cannes Film Festival and in India. Explaining how people at the event talk about good films and not box office numbers, he said, “I had never thought that I will go to Cannes one day when I had started off. It’s the Mecca of cinema, vahan chaaron taraf ache cinema ki baat hoti hai, box office collection ki baat nahi hoti. Hum jo collection ki baatein kar kar ke cinema dekh rahe hain na aaj kal? Vahaan uski baat nahi hoti.”
Talking about celebrating his birthday at Cannes, he said, “Representing India is always special. Be it on my birthday or any other day. I have spent five-six of my birthdays at Cannes as it’s been held around the same time every year. I am not a person who celebrates birthdays as such. It’s just like a normal day.”
The 75th Cannes Film Festival has an impressive showing of Indian talent. Deepika Padukone is on jury duty alongside acclaimed filmmakers and stars from across the world. On the first day, she made her much-talked-about appearance in a stunning black and gold saree. India is also the country of honour at the Cannes Film Market where six Indian films will be showcased.
