NatWest, Barclays and HSBC among banks closing branches this month

The move will leave thousands of customers without access to an in-person branch as most of them are closing all around around the country.

From Lloyds to Barclays, over 70 banks are scheduled to close in June.

As more banks and building societies move more of their banking services online, Britons will be seeing a rising number of branch closures over the coming months.

Many people will now have to travel further for in-person assistance of their banking. This also raises concerns for older or more vulnerable people who may struggle with online banking.‌

Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK, said: “We need to face up to the fact that huge numbers of older people, the oldest old, especially, are not banking online. Even older people who bank online often want the ability to talk to a bank employee in the flesh about some kind of transaction.‌

A lack of face-to-face banking will only serve to further exclude the millions of people on a low income who have no or limited access to the internet.”
