National Education Policy: MDU Rohtak inks MoU with IHM Pusa for hospitality & research – Times of India
The MoU signing ceremony took place at IHM Pusa, New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in the partnership between these esteemed institutions.
IHM Pusa, established in 1962, is a premier hospitality institution of India under the aegis of the ministry of tourism, government of India. It offers quality hospitality education at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. On the other hand, Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, is a leading state university established under the Haryana Act No. 25 of 1975, focusing on interdisciplinary higher education and research. MDU is amongst top 100 Universities in India since the last 5 years as per NIRF, Govt. of India and No-1 State University of Haryana.
A spokesperson of varsity said that the collaboration between IHM Pusa and MDU Rohtak aims to offer a “Value Added Course on ‘The Great Indian Cuisine'” to students from both institutions. This specialized course will provide students with hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of the diverse regional cuisines of India. The course will cover areas such as Cuisine and Culinary Delights from North, East, West, South & Central India, covering the Great Indian Cuisine.
Prof. Rajbir Singh, vice-chancellor of MDU, highlighted the importance of such partnerships in advancing academic excellence. “Probably this is the first of its own kind of collaboration between two great institutions of hospitality in the country. This collaboration aligns with the National Education Policy and the vision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the government to foster closer ties between national institutions and universities for academic growth, skilling and research advancement”, he said.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Prof. Gulshan Lal Taneja, Registrar of MDU, and Kamal Kant Pant, principal/secretary IHM Pusa, expressed their enthusiasm for this collaboration and emphasized its significance in promoting culinary skills and cultural exchange.
Prof. Ashish Dahiya – director IHTM MDU asserted that The “Value Added Course on ‘The Great Indian Cuisine'” will be a one-week program consisting of about forty hours of practical training, focusing on various aspects of regional Indian cuisines.
Kamal Kant Pant – principal IHM Pusa asserted that this MoU signing sets the stage for future collaborations between IHM Pusa and Maharshi Dayanand University in areas of mutual interest, including faculty exchange programs, joint research projects, and industry partnerships.
Prof Sandeep Malik – director, faculty development centre and Prof. Rahul Rishi, director – Startups, Incubation and Innovation MU were also present.
