Natalie Cassidy responds after five stars are axed from EastEnders

Natalie Cassidy, who is best-known for playing fiery nurse Sonia Fowler, has spoken out about EastEnders’ bosses decision to axe five stars from the soap. In a huge shake-up, Lola Pearce actress Danielle Harold was the first to receive the shocking news of her departure.

It has now been revealed that a number of actors will also be written out in big storylines in only a matter of time, including the likes of Stuart Highway actor Ricky Champ, Barbara Smith (Dana Monroe) and Dayle Hudson (Peter Beale), and Kelsey Calladine-Smith, who plays Jada Lennox.

EastEnders’ actors will soon bid farewell to their colleagues and leave the Elstree Studios set for one final time in the coming months. Since the news broke out, which has left many fans of the soap devastated, Natalie, 39, has shared that the exits are all part of the nature of the business.

Natalie expressed that she is excited to see the new faces joining the soap

“It’s soap”, she told Metro.co.uk on the red carpet of the British Soap Awards. “It’s what happens. To get good stories, you need people to exit and you need people to come in. It’s just the way of the show. Exits and entrance is a part of soaps. So it just is what it is.”

The long-time soap star added that she is excited about the new chapter for the show and all the new faces joining. “I’m so excited!” the actress enthused. ‘[New boss] Chris [Clenshaw] is a wonderful addition. He’s been with us before, he’s very passionate about the show, he loved it inside and out, seriously.”

“So for me I just always want someone who loves the show as much as I do. It’s just lovely to be in a place where we’re starting afresh. I’ve watched the show go through many different sets and different times and this is just another one and I’m really excited.”
