Nail colour which makes women look automatically sexy – and it’s not red

Clothes, hair and makeup are all avenues for self-expression, but what does your chosen nail colour say about you?

According to one manicurist, there’s much more to it than simple colour preference. Paintbox manicurist Gerry Holford spoke to HuffPost about what nail your colour says about who you are.

Those who want to achieve a sexier look might opt for black or red nails, however Gerry believes there’s an even better shade.

She advised trying out a rich wine shade: “Sexy, sultry for me is always a dark burgundy nail. It’s a modern classic.”

Black nail polish gives off a “creative” aura, according to Gerry, as it suggests that the wearer “thinks outside of the box”.

I think it takes a lot of confidence to wear a black manicure, and for most women that do wear one, it’s their signature look.”

For a more dangerous, fiery look go for red – “I’d like to think there isn’t such a thing as an ‘angry’ manicure, but if I had to choose, I would venture to say a blood red manicure could be construed that way.”

According to the expert, bright-coloured nails have almost a placebo effect in that they give energy to the person wearing it.

Think lime green or canary yellow for an instant mood-booster – “you have no choice but to get your energy up and get going!”.

For a “relaxed” look, Gerry recommended pastels including pinks and creamy beiges.

This also creates a regal look for any royal fans – Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite was the barely-there milky Ballet Slippers by Essie.

Another way to play it safe is with a solid white mani, which is not only “fresh” and “chic” but possibly anti-ageing.

Indeed, it “works on all ages and lends an element of youth to anyone wearing it”.

Finally, for those that like to be daring orange nails are “ballsy” and “impulsive”, as is metallic green.
