TORONTO – April Wine founder Myles Goodwyn says he’s done with touring life and will play his final live show in March.
The Halifax band’s lead vocalist and guitarist says ongoing issues with his diabetes have led him to conclude his “touring days are officially over.”
The 74-year-old musician insists he’s not finished with April Wine, however. He plans to remain a producer and songwriter on their future recordings.
His last concert with the group will be March 2 in Nova Scotia, though a city and venue have yet to be announced.
Goodwyn is the only original member of April Wine still in the band, which formed in 1969. The act scored several Top 40 Canadian hits, including “Roller,” “Just Between You and Me” and “You Could Have Been a Lady,” and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2010.
Marc Parent, who played in Ottawa progressive rock band Eight Seconds, will step into Goodwyn’s shoes as April Wine’s lead singer and guitarist.
The group originally made the announcement in a Facebook post on Dec. 19.
