‘My friends were p***ed at me for going in the VIP airport lounge’

A traveler has received backlash from his friends for spending a long layover in an airport VIP lounge – without them. Posting on Reddit’s AITA (“Am I the a**hole?”) he questions his actions and is feeling guilty about it.

He told users of the forum that his friends were “p*ssed” at him when he described his relaxing lounge experience to them. The man wrote on the site: “I’m traveling with five friends now and we are traveling cheap. However, we had one long layover in an airport with a great VIP lounge”.

“The thing about these lounges is that they have free food and liquor. And comfortable chairs and shower facilities.”

He did suggest to his friends that it would be a great idea to go into the lounge to make the long layover more comfortable and told them how much it would cost.

“They all said that they didn’t want to waste money,” he wrote. So, he headed to the lounge by himself. He went on: “I had some snacks. A few drinks. A quick nap. A long hot shower. And then I caught up with my friends at the gate”.

They noticed immediately, that he appeared more fresh and relaxed than they were.  He continued: “My phone was fully charged, I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. And a little drunk”.

“When we started talking they were b****ing about the cost of everything at the airport.”

The man went on to tell them about his stay. He wrote: “Two of them got visibly angry. They said I was an a***e for not telling (them) everything (that) was in the lounge.

“They had actually spent more on food and drinks than I had. Plus I got to nap in a comfy chair and have a shower.”

Defending himself, he said: “I told them that lounges aren’t a secret and that the internet exists. They could have looked up the same information I did.”

Redditors assured the man he’d done nothing wrong. One reader wrote: “Surprised their friends shut off the idea before checking how much the lounge costs”.

Another said: “Especially since buying anything at the airport is as expensive as f**k. You can easily spend $50 to $70 on a meal and drinks when you could’ve spent a similar amount for the lounge and gotten more perks.”
